The main focus of this thesis is on the “Trianon syndrome” i.e. the sense of injustice experienced by Hungarians which was created by the Treaty of Trianon (June 4, 1920) and which manifests as the desire for irredentism and revisionism. Chapter 1 describes the origin of the Treaty, as a result of which Hungary lost 2/3 of its former territory and more than 3 million Hungarians found themselves in the newly created neighboring countries. Chapter 2 presents the manifestations of irredentism and revisionism in the Hungarian everyday life, culture and politics of the interwar period, and discusses the redrawing of borders during World War II.
